About me and my therapy practice
When somebody says "loss", people usually think of death. Whilst death is indeed a loss, there are also other losses that people experience in life too. I offer 1:1 online counselling and work with people who have experienced different types of loss within their lives, which often brings up other relating issues. These losses may be recent, historical or both, and can include:
Loss/Death-Bereavement. This may be recent or historical (including pets).
Loss of relationship/s with Partner, family members or friends, divorce.
Loss of self/ identity/personality through a traumatic experience and/or a significant change in your life.
Loss of direction in life - unsure what to do.
Loss of self worth and self belief.
Loss of childhood through historical abuse; sexual, emotional, physical, neglect, toxic environment.
Loss of ability through an accident, surgery or illness forcing a significant change.
Loss of youth/time: struggling to live in the present, missing days gone,' living' in the past.
Loss of years of life- living a lie/not living as your authentic self-sexual orientation, 'coming out' in later life.
Loss of usual relationship/connection with a loved one who has Dementia.
I have worked with people who have anxiety, depression, anger, grief, guilt, stress, shame and low self esteem. I use a person Centred approach which recognises individuality and uniqueness, and with my help, gives room for the service user to explore their feelings around any issues they bring. I often combine this with an integrative approach, as one style of counselling may not suit all.
I work using a trauma informed approach.
Practice description
Sessions are offered via video call (usually over zoom but can offer skype). This allows the service user to be in the comfort of their own surroundings and also allows flexibility.
The amount of sessions a person has varies from client to client. Some ask for a specific number of sessions and evaluate how they feel when they complete them, while others see how they feel after each session. Each session is up to an hour long and can be once a week, once a fortnight or 'as and when'. If you're unsure what you are seeking, we can discuss this.
I've worked with people who have never had counselling before, and with people who have. Counselling is unique for each person due to their individual experiences. I work with service users by fitting their communication style and having a non judgmental and sensitive approach.
Over the last 8 years, I have worked as a bereavement/grief counsellor, a mental health counsellor and worked with females who have experienced domestic abuse, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, biphobia and typical issues relating to girl/womanhood. I work with young and older clients who have different lifestyles, beliefs and experiences.
If you are unsure about counselling and want to find out more, please take a look at my website for more details. Alternatively, you can contact me through the contact information above. I absolutely understand that finding the right counsellor is important.
My first session
Before any counselling goes ahead, ill arrange a short consultation with you for us to discuss whether or not the style of counselling I offer is suitable for you. This gives you an opportunity to ask me questions and it also gives me an opportunity to tell you more about the service I offer. There is no charge for this initial consultation and its about 30 minutes. This can be over the phone or through video call.
