I offer a free initial online consultation. This is around fifteen minutes and gives us a chance to meet and to talk about what brings you to therapy. On the basis of this you can then decide whether you would like to book an appointment. I also provide a low-cost therapy service. Hours are 9.30-6.30 from Monday to Friday. Please contact me for further details of availability and fees.
About me and my therapy practice
I am an Existential-Phenomenological Psychotherapist and Accredited Member of the BACP with extensive clinical experience working with adolescents and adults.
I offer a safe and confidential space, bringing warmth and acceptance to the therapeutic relationship, so that thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely without judgement.
My approach focuses on working collaboratively with you to understand and make sense of the problems and difficulties you face. With greater understanding choices become apparent and, with them, the potential to make the changes necessary to live a more fulfilling life.
As an existential-phenomenological therapist, I practise an approach that is philosophically-based, yet down to earth. Its emphasis is on working together to understand your own philosophy and how you make sense of your life and its meaning. Within this are the values, assumptions and attitudes, all of which inform the way that difficulties and issues are understood. I also integrate humanistic, Freudian and Jungian concepts into my work and hold qualifications in CBT, Mentoring and Coaching. This means that I can draw on the most appropriate approaches for each client's needs throughout our work together.
I have extensive experience working with anxiety and depression (including Generalised Anxiety Disorder), relationship issues, loss and bereavement, life transitions and crises, domestic violence and trauma and abuse. I also offer support and strategies to teenagers (16+) for a range of issues including exam and social stress and anxiety.
As well as my private practice I am a volunteer counsellor for a national women's aid charity and also provide therapy for the Victim Support Homicide Team. I am the founder and lead psychotherapist of The North London Psychotherapy Centre, which was set up in 2010 as part of a health centre in Palmers Green, North London.
Before deciding on a career change and beginning my professional training, I spent twenty-five years in the marketing sector, latterly as the managing director of a communications company. I draw on this experience, along with my professional coaching training, to offer goal-orientated therapy and coaching where this is helpful.
My first session
Our first session gives us the opportunity to meet and look at some of the issues you are currently facing. If we decide that it would helpful to work together we would then agree a mutually convenient weekly appointment time. I offer short-term and long-term therapy and this is dependent on each client's situation. This can be agreed at the beginning and would be regularly reviewed as part of our work.
