About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I am Susan and I am a qualified registered counsellor, tutor of counselling and trainer. I offer warmth, compassion, and empathy, listening to your story without judgement. I am an integrative therapist using my professional experience to support you, my values as a person and a therapist is grounded in the Person-Centred Approach, this means I work within your own world view. I am also experienced in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Creative Therapy, Mindfulness and my passion is Positive Psychology, finding purpose and meaning within life, enabling a growth process. Most of all I am ‘human and authentic’ I have my own lived experience of life’s many issues, and apply the concepts of the above theories to myself. My own journey of purpose and meaning continues and I am excited by what I will find.

Over the years, I have worked in the community with over 200 people who have had mental health issues, I have seen first-hand how people can change and grow, becoming their own best resource. This has been an empowering and a humbling experience for me.

I have also written and developed a Mentoring programme for a national visual impairment charity and delivered the first training. This is going from strength to strength and the mentors are supporting people who may be struggling with their sight loss.

Practice description

People are not broken or need fixing; I offer a safe compassionate space where you can heal and grow; I will support you in an empathic and non-judgemental way. Do you want to move forward in your life? Are you unsure how to do this? I can work with you to tap into your resourcefulness and develop your own 'toolbox' in managing your mental well-being. Positive Psychology helps you to develop optimism, hope and resilience; mindfulness helps you to live in the moment. Post traumatic growth is a passion of mine, looking at how you can still grow after a traumatic event in your life.

My first session

I initially offer an assessment session, where you can tell me some of your ‘story’ and then I will share what I can offer you and you will have a sense of whether I am the right therapist for you. I offer face to face counselling and Zoom sessions. I do a collaborative assessment every six weeks to check out we are still working well together and you feel that you are starting to move forward step by step.

About me and my therapy practice

As a tutor and trainer, I have written and developed various programmes for charities.  A project that is going from strength to strength is a mentoring programme for a national visual impairment charity.  Mentors are trained to work on an online platform with mentees who are blind or visually impaired.  They are a life line at times of uncertainty and a listening ear with Mentors who may have gone through a similar experience as them.
