About me and my therapy practice
Making the first step to enter therapy can feel anxiety provoking and overwhelming. I do keep this in mind and endeavour to make you feel as safe and comfortable as possible to start exploring what has brought you to therapy.
I have many years of experience providing individual and group psychotherapy in humanistic, psychodynamic, and CBT modalities with clients from all backgrounds.
I am currently in the final stages of completing a professional doctorate in counselling psychology at the University of Roehampton. Some information about my research project can be found here https://www.roehampton.ac.uk/research-centres/centre-for-research-in-social-and-psychological-transformation/doctoral-students/sofie-heien/
I work with adults on an individual basis, usually meeting once a week. The therapy can be for a limited number of sessions or open-ended depending on our agreement.
I am a registered member of the BACP working in private practice in Shoreditch, East London.
I believe that the needs of the client come before my affiliation to one specific therapeutic approach. I have had extensive training in theory and practice of person-centered, psychodynamic, and CBT frameworks. I believe all these approaches have something to offer and my practice borrows from the approach I think best suit the needs of the client.
Above all else I am an open, caring, and warm therapist and my clients have thanked me for offering a space to explore their difficulties and strengths in a safe space.
My first session
Psychotherapy sessions usually last 50 minutes. In the first session I will ask you some questions about what has brought you to therapy and we will discuss what you wish to gain from the therapy and come up with a plan.
