About me and my therapy practice

I offer Person Centred counselling, a non-directive approach, which believes, given the right conditions, a person can reach their full potential and become their true self. I aim to offer a safe, non-judgemental, supportive, and understanding space for you to talk about past or present feelings, emotions, and events. From our work together, I hope to facilitate your personal growth and self-development thus enabling you to make peace or find resolution of current or past difficulties.

In addition to the above, I also work integratively which means that I have a good understanding and working knowledge of other theories and types of psychologies (such as Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory, Solution Focused Therapy, and others), which I will bring into our work together, should there be a need or benefit to you. As well as this, I have a range of resources, strategies, and guides which, where relevant and necessary, I will forward onto you to enhance your understanding and knowledge, also known as Psychoeducation.

Practice description

I offer support to adults with common mental health conditions, such as, anxiety, stress, depression, low mood, anger management, bereavement, PTSD, amongst many other issues.

I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I work within the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling professions which means work ethically and responsibly. I regularly attend a variety of workshops for Continual Professional Development and am constantly seeking knowledge through other means such as reading, podcasts, study papers, television etc , all of which enhance my practice and also to ensure I am up to date with key legislation and practice.

My first session

I would be happy to arrange an initial phone call to discuss what your needs and requirements are from counselling. Please be aware that during the counselling process, you may feel worse before you begin to feel better.

Please find below feedback received from previous clients:

I was in need of some help, and was unsure of how to go about it. It wasn’t easy admitting this to myself, let alone a stranger. David helped me at once, with his calm and patient approach, and any concerns I had quickly dissipated. He helped when asked, and listened when I spoke. I feel much more resourceful and have gained the tools I needed. I hope you are fortunate enough to find David too, as I can’t thank him enough. - JG

He's very attentive and supportive in his approach to my issues. I really like the way he can point me in the right direction so I can express my feelings and shed more light on the issues I'm having. - IE
