About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integrative Counsellor and Systemic Group Therapist. i work relationally, interpersonally, spontaneously and creatively. The things that bring you to therapy: feelings and memories that may not seem bearable, situations that feel hopeless, or a life that doesn't feel your own. They are often hard to respond to. So therapy needs to be a place of collaborative creativity. We will explore together, through talking and conversation but also via other ways of expressing in order to surprise ourselves into uncovering new ways to shift what is stuck. So whilst therapy is firstly a place of safety, a place to rebalance and find strength to respond, it is not a solo journey, and it is not a hard and fast path.

I also work systemically, looking at how the systems we live within - family, societal and historical - have impacted us. What burdens, allegiances, and identifications we carry that are from other places, and do not belong to us. In therapy systemic work may take place through dream work, active imagination, creative writing, movement or other non-linear ways of thinking and being.

Practice description

I offer sessions at The Practice Rooms in Bath, The Therapy Rooms in Frome and online via Zoom.

My first session

Our first session is an assessment. This takes the form of a two way interview. Primarily it is about whether we feel like we can work together. Therapy is alchemical. You will often know instantly whether the therapist you are seeing is the right one for you at this time. So we need to see that. But I also need to get to know some of the main events and experiences that have lead to you the place you are at. Your early life, your family system, your memories of childhood. So, unlike the ongoing work, which is lead by you and your needs, the first session does involve a few questions on my part.
