About me and my therapy practice
Due to the current Covid-19, Coronavirus pandemic I will be expanding my availability for online sessions in recognition of the increased need for Counselling, including by those in isolation or experiencing health anxiety.
I offer face-to-face counselling in central Exeter, this space is not easily accessed by those with low mobility due to stairs, however I also offer remote counselling through skype.
I work with adult clients who don’t feel like themselves, maybe anxious, or a bit ‘flat’, people who want to make changes in their life but maybe aren’t quite sure where to start or how to go about it. This may be due to current events like relationship difficulties or things which happened in the past that are impacting you now.
I will provide you with a confidential space to access non-judgemental support where you will be listened to, some people find that this is all they need, an opportunity to talk things through and make sense of what’s going on for them, other people want more structured or focused work which looks at developing skills and resilience going forward.
We would meet for an initial session to talk about what you want from counselling and the way we might work together most effectively. We would also discuss how long you feel you want to attend sessions, whilst some people may get real benefit from longer term work, for many people a series of sessions over a few weeks may be most useful.
My first session
Our first session is a chance for us to meet and get a sense of how we might work together most effectively. This is an opportunity for you to outline what you hope to get from Counselling, ask questions about how I work, including things such as regularity of sessions. I will explain the more formal aspects of Counselling such as confidentiality and how your information is stored.
During our first session we will discuss general aspects of your life which have been indicated as impacting and being impacted by aspects of mental wellbeing, such as sleep and social support.
We will also explore what has brought you into Counselling and any specific things you feel you'd like to talk about during sessions. Many clients don't have a clear idea of what they actually want to change, but have a sense that something is not right and wish to investigate what this might be.
This initial assessment session lasts for 45 minutes and is £20, after which we will discuss if you feel that Counselling with me is the right 'fit' for you. If you don't wish to book any further sessions with me I can refer you to another practitioner who may be more suited to your needs.
