About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Lois and I offer face to face, online and telephone counselling.
I would describe myself as an empathic, kind person, who is a natural listener. I have worked in various sectors and have studied extensively, both of which have given me useful insight into what you might be facing.
I believe that everyone could benefit from counselling.
In sessions with me you will...
* have the time and space to focus solely on yourself
* be accepted exactly as you are
* feel heard and understood
* be able to use the time however you need to, and at your own pace
* slowly develop an insight into what truly ‘being you’ feels like
* be welcomed into a safe, cosy and confidential space
There are so many reasons that you might come for counselling...
* Work pressures
* Difficult decisions
* Feeling numb, as though life has no meaning
* Self-harming, thinking about death a lot, or feeling suicidal
* Anger issues
...Or maybe you just want someone to really listen when you talk.
Some people come for counselling when nothing is wrong as such, but because they don't feel quite right either.
I know that booking a first session is daunting, but you’ve read my profile so you’ve already taken the first step. All counsellors attend counselling when in training, so I have been there myself, and remember the anxious feelings well. I therefore hope to be able to put you at ease as soon as we make contact. So, if you're ready to get in touch, I look forward to hearing from you. For more information, or to book, we can either have a (free of charge) phone call, or text/email exchange, where you can also ask any questions that you might have.
I offer face to face counselling in a discreet, light and cosy environment.
I offer internet counselling using facetime, skype and zoom.
I offer telephone counselling.
My first session
I will welcome you into the therapy room where you will be offered a glass of water and shown to a comfortable chair. I will introduce myself, and then explain what will happen next.
The first session is called an 'assessment session', and this is for two reasons. Firstly, it is important that I only offer you counselling if I think I am going to be the right type and level of support for you. Secondly, it is important that you feel comfortable with, and able to talk to me.
I will know during the assessment session whether I am going to be able to offer you further sessions. If I am not able to offer you support at this time, I will endeavour to signpost you to someone who can. If however I am able to offer you further sessions, it will then be your choice. You might need time to go away and reflect on whether or not you would like to have counselling with me, or you might know there and then. Either way, there will be no pressure to book a further session.
