I am retiring as a therapist at the end of March 2022 and so am only working with existing and returning clients. I am currently on leave till 4 October 2021.
About me and my therapy practice
Deeply affected by events? Concerned about the future? Feeling isolated? Dealing with loss or grief? If it would help to talk confidentially, without being judged or told what to do, then maybe I can help.
What matters to me is what matters to you. I offer you space to express and explore the thoughts that may have been charging around, unfinished, in your head. Time to talk about life's challenges and the feelings you have about them. Or perhaps what you, as a person, need to be more who you really are.
You won't have to defend how you feel, worry about sounding confused or contradictory, or protect others' feelings,. So you're free to be as open and honest as you choose. To explore what's going on for you, and find a way forward for yourself.
I have particular experience and interest in working with:-
- People who feel overwhelmed and exhausted, and/or who are deeply affected by events and others' emotions
- People who often find themselves out of synch with others or the environment around them
- Losses which aren't recognised by others, or are hidden and can't be talked about for some reason
- Difficult feelings (anger, boredom, disappointment, envy, guilt, hurt, longing, rejection, resentment, shame)
- Birth-related issues and childhood experiences
- Traumatic deaths, including murder, suicide, road and drug deaths
- People who experience their emotions as physical sensations in their body
My counselling is a mix of three approaches, with you and how you really feel at the heart of each. These approaches are:-
- Person-centred counselling
- Inner relationship focusing
- Understanding your own 'operating system'

My first session
Please note, all sessions are currently online or by telephone.
Our first session is a chance to get to find out more about each other, and to go over the working arrangements information I will already have sent you. This covers confidentiality, ethical care, cancellation arrangements and fees. And we can talk more fully about what you want from counselling.
The first session gives you the chance to find out more about how I work and whether my approach might fit with what you're looking for. And to ask any questions about my experience or let me know about any concerns you have about counselling. Most importantly, when you meet me, you can judge how I listen, speak and respond to what you say. Those are important indicators of whether I am someone you think you can talk to about difficult issues and feelings. And I can let you know whether I think I'll be able to help you or not. If I think someone else or another counselling approach would be better suited to your needs, I can make recommendations.
Like other sessions, first sessions last an hour. I offer a discounted rate for first sessions (see fees section).
