About me and my therapy practice

Hello! I am an Integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor based in Spalding, Lincolnshire. I provide a supportive, non-judgemental, and confidential space for you to focus on the difficulties you are facing. My aim is to develop a trusting, genuine relationship which helps you to feel at ease, where you can talk freely about what is worrying you, what matters to you, and the experiences that have shaped you. Working together, we will explore, manage and make sense of life's challenges and difficulties whilst nurturing hope and possibility.

I draw on theories and concepts from the three main schools of psychological thought: Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT). My approach is primarily psychodynamic and humanistic, and influenced by attachment theory and current neuroscience. This gives me flexibility in my practice that allows sessions to be uniquely tailored to you, and what your needs are. My work also recognises the crucial connection of body and mind and I have a particular interest in Mindfulness approaches and Somatic therapies. These approaches can ground us in reality and lead to a greater sense of who we are, and to understand ourselves more fully.

I have worked extensively with adults and couples in my private practice and I have experience of working with a wide range of issues. I am drawn to working with trauma and PTSD and touched by my clients capacity for post traumatic growth. As a trauma informed therapist, I have a commitment to ongoing professional development in this field. I am also passionate about working with clients who are feeling lost or uncertain, suffering from a personal struggle within or have lost the joy and pleasure in life.

Whatever brings you here, my hope is that by working together we can bring clarity and insight to the things in your life that you would like to change and help you to find a pathway forward that brings meaning and purpose in your life.

Practice description

I work with individual clients and couples for both short term and open-ended work, either in-person or online.

You might be hoping to work through depression, anxiety, bereavement, life-changing events or past trauma. Perhaps you are seeking awareness, confidence, and strategies for coping with life's stresses. You may be curious about aspects of yourself and wish to explore who you are and where you want to be in your life. I bring warmth, creativity, and compassion to my work, and will support you to make sense of what may be contributing to the unhappiness, distress or suffering in your life. Working together, we will explore different aspects of yourself, your life and your difficulties. Our sessions together can help you make sense of your emotions and experiences, relationships, patterns of thinking or behaving, and the barriers in your life - those you are conscious of and those you are not. Many of our problems and issues have histories - they are created over time. Exploring the past experiences that have shaped you and understanding how this influences your present can help you make sense of your issues amidst possible distress and confusion. This perspective can help you heal from the past and learn effective coping strategies in order to develop a more enriching and fulfilling life, in a way that is meaningful to you.

My first session

Our first session aims to explore what brings you to counselling. When we meet you can tell me about yourself and the challenges you are currently facing, and any goals you might already have. I will ask questions to understand more about you and how I can help, or I can offer alternative options if appropriate. I will talk through my approach, and you can ask any questions you have about the process. At the end of this meeting, we can decide if counselling with me is right for you. There is no obligation to access my support beyond this session.

Should you decide to begin counselling with me, this will involve exploring in more detail what you are experiencing and the areas you want to work on. Working together in a confidential, safe space can help you to face challenges and negotiate a pathway towards a greater sense of clarity and the possibility of change.
