About me and my therapy practice

Connection is a fundamental human need; something we have all been reminded of through the most recent isolating effects of the Covid – 19 pandemic. Not everyone has a support network of friends or family available to them. Sometimes we simply don’t wish to burden our loved ones with our troubles.

When the challenges that life throws at us just feel too big to process alone; counselling can be life affirming, life – changing, and for some people, a lifeline.

Person – centred philosophy prizes your unique experience of being you.

It is my goal to facilitate the right conditions for you to reconnect with your personal power, through being heard, feeling accepted and valued. As your counsellor: I am a guest in your world, remaining with you as you explore your thoughts, feelings, and your experience of life.

This might take the form of short-term counselling, to explore a current concern; or longer-term psychotherapy aiming to unravel past hurts that are impacting your life right now. Both approaches can open up a wealth of possibility for a future in which you feel like the real you – able to draw upon your inner strength and resources which make you an exceptional human being.

I have completed a BA Hons degree from Middlesex University in person – centred counselling and psychotherapy. I continue to attend continual professional development webinars, courses, and connect with the professional community through the Person – Centred Association. As a member of the BACP I work within their ethical framework and to ensure that I am up to date with legal and ethical requirements; I also have regular supervision.

Practice description

I offer face to face counselling at the West Street Centre in Fareham.  The centre consists of bright, comfortable therapy rooms across two floors, including accessible ground floor rooms and facilities.  Situated in central Fareham, the practice is walking distance from Fareham train station and convenient bus links. The practice has regular Covid - risk assessments with procedures in place to minimise risks (such as hand sanitisers at entrance and in the room).

I also offer remote counselling via telephone or Zoom.  These appointments are limited to daytime between 10 am and 3pm to maintain privacy in the home environment.

My first session

Our first session will be a 30 - minute telephone consultation and will be free. This is to introduce myself, have a chat about the counselling agreement, privacy statement and offer an opportunity for you to ask questions.  At this time I will also collect information that is necessary in the event of an emergency or that you feel you would like to share ahead of beginning therapy.  This call may not be at our usual appointment day / time moving forwards but at a mutually convenient time to be arranged during your initial enquiry.

I offer this as a free appointment to ensure that you feel comfortable in beginning a therapeutic relationship with me.  The quality of connection with your therapist can form the basis of a powerful therapeutic alliance whereby we will co - create an approach that feels right for you.
