About me and my therapy practice

**I am currently unable to accept new private clients**

The counselling I offer can help you to reduce confusion and enable choice or change by offering the opportunity to explore aspects of your life, thoughts and feelings.

As a warm and professional practitioner, I offer a predominantly person-centred approach meaning that you, and what you need, will be the focus of the sessions. However, I also work integratively; this means that I may draw on knowledge from other theories, for example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Transactional Analysis, if I feel this may be helpful for you.

I have experience of a wide range of presenting issues, such as anxiety, depression and low self-esteem, from my on-going work in Time-Limited Therapy as the Practice Counsellor in two NHS Devon GP Surgeries. Additionally, I am a Wellbeing Coordinator with the West Devon Wellbeing Project and also a Lecturer in Counselling Skills at Exeter College.

I offer private counselling sessions from rooms at the Ockment Centre in Okehampton, EX20 1AR.

For information about fees, please see my website: www.ajfitzsimmonscounsellingservices.com.

I have a First Class BSc(Hons) in Social Sciences with Psychological Studies and will draw on both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in my work with you. I am a strong believer in the importance of the development of the therapeutic relationship in enabling the counselling process. With this in mind, it is important that you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor and I therefore encourage booking an initial, one-off session in order for you to be able to meet me, find out more about the counselling service I offer and to decide whether you feel it is right for you.

I appreciate that it takes courage to take this first, brave step and can assure you of a respectful and understanding response; recognising that this is your choice.
