About me and my therapy practice
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.
Counselling is my second profession having spent much of the last 13 years working in Universities and the NHS.
I am a person centred counsellor, what this means is that for me counselling is led by you in the session, I will never ask you to prepare for a session (although you are free to if it helps you) and I will never direct you in terms of what to do in a session. We will work together and I can help you explore ways forward that feel right for you or I can just be someone to hear you and be on your side. I offer hourly sessions where you will be able to work with me in a non judgemental way. I am also able to accommodate evening and weekend appointments with prior agreement, please note though due to other work commitments my private spaces are most likely to be on a Monday.
To support my counselling work I have also trained in ecotherapy (working outside and with the natural world) as well as in basic mindful techniques, I am also happy to use art materials within therapy. I also work 4 days a week within the Perinatal Team at the local NHS mental health trust. I therefore have experience working with women in both the antenatal or postnatal period that are experiencing difficulties with their mental health.
I completed all my counselling training through the Norwich Centre. Through the Norwich Centre I gained my Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling, this course is recognised by BACP. What this means is that all my counselling is delivered at a professional level and I must meet certain requirements to keep my membership valid. This includes having regular supervision to make sure I am practicing properly. I also abide by a strict code of Ethics that can be found on the BACP website.
Outside of my counselling work I am also a Primary Tutor on a Masters in Person-Centred psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute in London.
Practice description
Please note - due to Covid 19 all sessions are being held remotely over Zoom. My plan is to return to face to face work late in 2020 however, this is subject to change dependent on how the Covid situation progresses.
My first session
I offer an introductory/exploratory session for all new clients. This is a 30 minute session (the cost is £15) where we can meet each other and you can let me know what you are seeking counselling for and see how you feel about working with me. I can answer any queries you have about therapy and explain how the sessions might work. I also have a contract and privacy agreement that I can explain to you in this meeting.
