About me and my therapy practice

Have you been struggling to get on track since the pandemic? With everything going on in the world at the moment, it is little surprise that sometimes you feel overwhelmed, stretched or just plain exhausted. It can be hard to think of ways through. Taking a moment to talk through what you are feeling and how it is affecting you is a great place to start.

As a therapist, I have been described as warm, supportive, funny but also direct, and even challenging. Once we have set a goal for our sessions, I am relentless in pursuing it. To do this, I bring the knowledge gained through four degrees, multiple postgraduate clinical courses, hours of research and the cumulative experience of thousands of hours of work with clients.

Usually, we start with the present, discussing your current situation and what we can change today to improve the situation quickly. This will likely involve tackling any thoughts or behaviours you may be doing automatically that are not serving you. Sometimes, the present can be influenced by the past so we will explore this together, looking for old ways of thinking or behaving that might not work for you anymore. We will design a plan of action together to deal with all of these ad gets you moving forwards.

I work with a range of human experiences including:

Low self-esteem and feeling down.

Stress management including sustainable routines, self-care and wellbeing.

Life fatigue including a lack of motivation, enthusiasm, drive and an unclear path forward.

Men’s issues including, coping with emotions, dating and life in the modern world.

I have also developed a particular interest in helping women who struggle with men and find them hard to deal with in their lives.

I am a fully qualified and insured Accredited member of the BACP. I work integratively, incorporating person-centred, CBT, psychodynamic theories but also draw on psychotherapeutic coaching techniques such as solution-focused coaching

Please see my website for more information.

Practice description

I offer short or long-term work customised to your needs and financial situation. Sessions in the evenings from 5-8pm are available. All of my sessions are on Zoom or via phone.

Sometimes, short-term therapy is enough to get you through a crisis or move towards a goal. I have experience working to a time-limited deadline and many clients prefer having a package of a certain number of sessions to work towards a specific point.

Certain problems run deeper. Longer term work can help to get to the root causes of a behaviour or feeling and stop the problem ever happening again. For these issues, we can work in a more open-ended way where we set the goal and agree to work towards it and then keep going until it has been met. We will review our work as we go, making sure we are still working on goals that you feel are important.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and can be arranged individually or in packages of 5 sessions (with a discount for block bookings). We would try to meet once per week, at a regular time.

All sessions are online via Zoom unless you would prefer to work without video in which case, phone sessions can be arranged.

I am registered with Aviva, Axa, Cigna and Evernorth, Vitality, and WPA and can directly bill these insurance providers. Please contact me for further information.

My first session

Our fist session will be free. It is an assessment where we explore your current situation, find out what is bothering you and decide what it is that you want to change. It is also a chance for you to find out if you like how I work and want to work with me further, as well as for me to make sure that I believe I can help you. Typically, this session takes place by Zoom.

We will discuss your issue and I will take a thorough history of the problem. I will likely talk less than you do because I want to get a sense of what you are going through and no one knows this better than you. However, I am likely to ask a lot of questions to make sure that I have as full of a picture of your issues as possible.

Together, we will look for any patterns in behaviours, thoughts or beliefs that may be holding you back. We may also try to change some of them immediately, hopefully providing some quick relief.

At the end of the session, we will discuss what we might do together in future if we were to work together. You will leave with a good idea of what would happen in future sessions, if there were any. Sometimes, if I do not feel like my services are the best possible way forward for you, I might offer some other ideas and perhaps arrange for some resources to be sent to you.

You will leave the session with no obligation to continue unless you have decided that you want to.
