I work mornings and afternoons 3 days a week (Wednesday to Friday) and I offer sessions in an evening once a week.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi my name is Suzanne. I'm a person-centred counsellor and I am a registered member of the BACP. I am based in Hull with a second site in Melton. I offer video call, telephone or face to face sessions for young people (16yrs+) and adults. I will also consider home visits or walk and talk therapy, so you can choose what feels the most convenient and comfortable for you. Each session is for one hour.
I specialise in working with parents. Being a parent can be an amazing and wonderful time, however, it can also be overwhelming, stressful, demanding and confusing. It can lead to feelings of being a failure as a parent, feeling lost and unsure how to cope. Navigating the tough times is when a little help can make a big difference.
I offer a relaxed, confidential and safe space for you to explore your thoughts and emotions. I will sit alongside you and we can build a relationship of mutual trust and respect, in which you can feel heard and understood, without judgement or pressure. As well as talking we can use visual aids such as emotion cards, buttons, diagrams and timelines to help us understand what is going on for you. We work at your pace, sessions are not limited and we review progress together. We can work towards your goals, aiming for you to find the best way forward for you.
Having experienced the trials of parenthood, I have been through therapy myself, and I have felt how life changing it can be. People seek counselling for all sorts of reasons. As a parent, something significant may have happened, to you or your child/children, which has left you feeling like a bomb went off and you are struggling with moving forward. It may be that there has not been a significant event, but navigating parenthood is taking its toll in some form, and you haven't felt able to discuss it with anyone. However you feel those thoughts, emotions and behaviours are valid and you deserve to be heard. Counselling for me felt like a warm blanket of security, an environment of being heard and understood, and this is what I aim to offer you. You bring whatever you feel you need to discuss and explore and together we work towards you understanding what is going on for you. I will sit alongside you on your journey as we aim for you to find the solutions to enable you in feeling able to move forward however feels best for you. Person-centred counselling is based around offering empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. Which means I work hard to put myself in your shoes, to completely understand how you are feeling and what you are going through. I will always be honest, and I will not judge you in any way. I complete regular personal development and training, to ensure my knowledge, skills and self-awareness are of a standard I feel proud to offer. I offer a contract that discusses confidentiality and GDPR, that we discuss before we begin our work together, to ensure you feel comfortable and happy with how I handle your personal information. I assure you that confidentiality is of the upmost importance to me, and strict guidelines are followed, as your trust is paramount. I offer face to face, telephone or video call sessions. I am willing to do home visits or walk and talk therapy is also available, so you can choose whichever feels the most convenient and comfortable for you.
My first session
Following you making an initial enquiry we can arrange a mutually convenient time for a free 20 minute telephone conversation to ensure we feel comfortable to work together, and to discuss details that may help you confirm whether I am the right counsellor for you. If you are happy to go ahead we will arrange our first session, be it via telephone, video call or face to face. Please be assured, there is no obligation to book a full session at the point of the initial phone call.
Payment is taken at the point of booking a full session, as confirmation of booking.
The first session is for you to tell me about yourself generally and for me to do some information gathering. This can provide an opportunity to put us at ease, and provides a strong start for our working relationship.
In following sessions you bring whatever you feel you need to discuss and explore and I guide the exploration through discussion and/or using such as emotion cards, buttons, diagrams, timelines or playdough.
We work together to reach goals set by you, to enable you in understanding yourself, your thoughts, emotions and behaviours and to assist you in changing anything you wish to change. We aim for you to feel able to move forward as you feel is best for you.
