About me and my therapy practice

I am a person centered experienced registered Counsellor.  My aim is to work with you, to achieve your goals in your counselling.  In my practice you are the expert in the room.  You know where you have been, you know where you are at, and importantly you know where you want to go.  At first you may be unsure about where you want to go, and if so you will be pleased to know that one of the purposes of the first few sessions are for you to explore and discuss where it is you want to be.  I offer you my experience, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence, and I will keep you safe in a confidential environment.

Practice description

My main expertise is trauma, combat trauma, survivor of childhood sexual abuse trauma, physical violence trauma, and relationship trauma.

I also have experience in relationship issues, depression, dysfunctional thinking, over thinking, fears of rejection, loss, success, failure.  I also can assist in career development, anger management and fears of fears.

I work primarily with person centered approach and also have experience in the following:

DBT: CAT: Motivational Interviewing: RET: CBT: Humanistic Therapy: EMDR: Mindfulness Practices: Eco Therapy.

My first session

First session is to simply find out whether you can work with me, and whether I can in fact help you.  If I feel that I cannot help you I will refer you to one on my many colleagues who may be able to assist you.

This is achieved by introductions after you have been informed that you do not have to talk about anything that you do not want to talk about.  Cheshire Therapy Services underlying philosophy is that you are the expert and it is you that will direct the content of the sessions.

I will offer you a safe environment for you to achieve what you decide is your goals in therapy.

I start all sessions with 'You have an hour to talk about what you want to talk about'.

About me and my therapy practice

My expertise is founded in personal experiences, academic work, research and my two counselling practices.  I have been a supervisor for 12+ years.  I carry out my supervision from a Rogerian perspective, and have supervised professionals from all counselling perspectives.  I will challenge in a way that leads to learning offering differing perspectives to what you bring to the session.  It will be up to you, the professional, to reflect and choose a perspective that works for you.
