About me and my therapy practice

I am a COSCA trained supervisor with experience in counselling from an integrative approach since qualifying with COSCA Diploma in Counselling in 2012.  Over the years I have become more pluralistic as I find out what will be most useful, starting with the foundations of  person centred, and weaving in psychodynamic and CBT as I'm guided by what is working for clients.  I can see counsellors either over Zoom or (once Covid restrictions allow) in my garden art studio which provides a relaxed atmosphere for the work we do together.  I am a CIPD qualified Trainer and ILM Coach and have used this for helping improve relationship issues in workplaces.  I find the 7 Eye Model works well for my supervisees as it provides a framework for our reflection and actions.

Practice description

Our work will be guided by the BACP Ethical Framework and other guidance they provide.  Even supervisees not registered with the BACP have found this helpful in conjunction with their own professional membership which is foundational to ongoing practice.

The Supervisee sets the agenda and I provide a flexible framework that ensures the safety and development of client, supervisee and myself!  Self care is always a priority and checking wellbeing is essential alongside covering the client issues at our meetings.  There will sometimes be organisational issues that need to be discussed and often cover boundaries and responsibility questions.

Frequency and duration of meetings will meet both BACP and any other rules set by agencies that the supervisee is responsibility to abide by.  For example students often must meet fortnightly, whereas the norm for experienced counsellors is usually monthly.

The aim is always to promote best interests of clients by enhancing our self awareness and taking care of our on going development needs.

My first session

Our initial free meeting is to decide if we both think we can work well together.  This can be using Zoom or face to face depending on practicalities and any pandemic restrictions.  We will both have questions that we need answers to that will help us get to know each other and how we work.  If we find accord in how we want to work together, we then start the process of forming a contract.  You will get time to consider this before we sign our agreement.  This can be reviewed at any time and at least on an annual basis.
