About me and my therapy practice
I offer confidential, safe and professional counselling and psychotherapy from therapy rooms in Stockbridge, Edinburgh EH3. Flexible daytime and evening appointments are available.
Talking therapy is not just 'talking about your problems'; it is also about working towards solutions without judging or criticising. My approach is integrative, which means I may draw on certain models and theories (including CBT, mindfulness-based and psychodynamic approaches), depending individual needs and thinking styles. My clients come with a wide variety of challenges and experiences.
I have a special therapeutic interest in mental health in academia, and an understanding of the particular pressures of academic life that can trigger or exacerbate anxiety, depression and other problems. Another interest is in working with adult ex-boarders whose ongoing emotional and relationship difficulties may be associated with having been sent away from home at an early age.
Alongside my private practice I have worked in community mental health services in England and Scotland. My career has also included working in further and higher education and in the media, and I have a PhD in social history from Edinburgh University.
If you would like to discuss how counselling/psychotherapy may help you and find out more about how I work, I offer a free, no-obligation, initial half-hour phone consultation at a time that suits you.
