About me and my therapy practice
Who supports you?
We live busy, stressful lives, particularly during current times, where many of us are facing increasingly challenging & unfamiliar situations. It can feel overwhelming.
I offer a safe space & counselling / psychotherapy to help you to navigate life’s challenges & to support you to find yourself amongst all the demands and responsibilities of life.
I work from a psychodynamic basis, which means that we will look at your childhood to gain understanding & a sense of how you came to be who you are, how you are & where you are in life, as well as to identify behaviour patterns that may no longer be helpful to you. I also draw on other modalities, tailoring my approach to best meet you & your particular needs.
I work with people of any gender, sexual & relationship identity, working on whatever issues you wish to explore. I provide support, gentle challenge & a judgement free, safe space in which to talk & explore feelings.
My first session
Your initial session will be what's termed an assessment & this is both for you and me to work out whether we would be a good fit to work together. This decision is as much up to you as it is to me. I will take a brief history from you as well as details of the current nature of your situation & what you hope to gain from counselling. I will explain fully how I work & we will both then have some time to reflect on whether to move forwards & book further sessions. This session is different from other counselling sessions because it is much more driven by me asking questions: it is a bit of a fact-find. Any further sessions will be led by you & what you wish to discuss.
The first couple of counselling sessions are really for us to get to know one another better & start to build a therapeutic relationship. You will have the space to talk freely about what is troubling you, why you are seeking counselling and what you wish to work on. As sessions progress & we get to know one another we will start to dig deeper, but this will be at your pace & with support.
