About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative counsellor, psychotherapist, mindfulness-based therapist and EMDR therapist. I work with many issues including stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, self-criticism, shame, loneliness, family issues, relationship difficulties, life changes, past trauma, complex trauma, menopause, neurodiversity, control, uncertainty, self-harm and addiction.

You may feel stuck or overwhelmed, distracted or disconnected, or that you lack purpose or meaning in life. You may not really know what the problem is but feel you could do with some support.

If you’re struggling or finding things difficult, you’re not alone. I understand how daunting it can be talking to someone about your feelings. I am here to listen and help you explore the issues you face, help you understand yourself better, see things more clearly and start making the changes you want.

Things don't have to be really bad in order to seek help. Even mild symptoms can seriously impair our enjoyment of life and wellbeing. My aim is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings or difficulties without being judged.

I can help you understand yourself better and see things more clearly. I can help you reconnect with your own personal strengths, work out what's important to you, and start making the changes you want to make. I can help you work through difficult thoughts and feelings, and find ways to manage them so they have less impact on your life and wellbeing.

We can often be quite unkind to ourselves - judging, blaming or criticising ourselves for things that have happened, or for the way we think and feel. I can help you find ways to ease your inner critic, so that you feel better about yourself and your worth as a human being. I can help you challenge self-limiting beliefs and behaviours. I can help you develop courage, resilience and acceptance, and encourage you to support yourself and your difficulties with compassion.

Practice description

I take an integrative approach which means I'm trained in a range of therapeutic approaches. These include EMDR Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). It's a flexible approach that allows me to draw on a range of skills and techniques and adapt them to suit the needs of the individual client.

I am warm, open, approachable and nonjudgmental. I take a collaborative approach, where we work together to help you find clarity and understanding, and help you make sense of what you are feeling and experiencing and why. I appreciate and respect that your experience is unique to you and understand how difficult it can be to find support. My aim is to help you understand yourself better, make sense of the difficulties you face, and increase your sense of confidence and wellbeing. I can help you understand your difficult thoughts and feelings, and find a different way of relating to them so that you feel less stuck or overwhelmed by them. We can look at strategies for coping and managing difficult thoughts and feelings, so that you can focus on the things that are important to you. I can help you make choices to start acting in ways that move you towards the person you want to be, rather than away from who you want to be. I can help you make the changes you’d like to make, whilst also accepting the things you’re unable to change or control. In this way, we are seeking to balance both acceptance and change.

My first session

I offer a free initial chat by phone that lasts up to 30 minutes. I'm open and friendly and will do my very best to help you feel comfortable and at ease. It’s an opportunity for you to tell me a bit more about what's going on for you and get a sense of whether I'm able to help you. It will help you get a sense of how I work and whether you feel comfortable with me. If you'd like to know more about my practice, book an appointment or arrange to have a chat, please do get in touch.

I'm currently working both online and face-to-face from my private practice in Totnes. In my experience, I've found that working online is as effective as in-person, and many clients find it better. This could be because you are in the comfort of your own home, avoid unnecessary travel time, can attend sessions with a cup of tea or coffee, and can make notes during the session if you wish to do so! If you're not sure how you feel about working online but are interested in talking to me, let me know and perhaps we can have our initial chat online instead of by phone.

I work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am-5pm.
