About me and my therapy practice
I am a Gestalt Counsellor and started seeing clients from 2013. This was through placements at Hampshire charities No Limits (young people) and Cruse (bereavement).
From 2017 to 2019 I set up and ran a counselling service with London charity Positive21 (HIV). In the past I have worked with LGBT young people who are at risk of sexual exploitation, domestic abuse and neglect as a project worker. I am co-author of "Strength to Talk" which is dedicated to men's mental health with all proceeds going to the charity Mind.
A career highlight was being able to improve understanding of the risks that LGBT young people face to other mental health professionals at Child Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) County Forum in 2014.
Get There Counselling is an online only service which allows you to connect from your home or place you feel secure.
Step By Step
Step 1: Book consultation on Kiku (via my website)
Step 2: Click on the contract in your confirmation email & complete (a sample contract can be found on my website). This is agreeing to confidentiality, completing emergency contact details and any relevant medical information.
Step 3: Attend free 30 min consultation via Psychology Today (Sessions). This is an encrypted service and you will be sent a link that will allow you to join. Use this consultation to ask questions and see if we have a good connection to work on the issues you want to.
Step 4: Agree plan with Rich (plans can be as short or as long as you like). Sessions are 50 min long and delivered through Psychology Today (Sessions).
Step 5: Use Kiku to book and pay for further sessions. You can book up to six days in advance.
My rate for trainee counsellors is £35.00. Please mention this during the initial consultation and any course paperwork requirements.
My first session
In your first session we will be building the trust and rapport so we can explore the issues we identified during the initial consultation and check in towards the end of the session to see how it was for you and thinking about how many sessions would work so we have a plan to work from.
I tend to think of treatment in blocks of 3, and on the 3rd session we will review and decide together if some more would work or if you have looked at what you wanted to look at and you are happy to end it there.
The priority for this work is to help you Get There!
