About me and my therapy practice
Seeing a therapist doesn't mean there's something 'wrong with you'. It means you may...
Feel now is the right time to work through some of your emotions;
Need to work through some traumatic experience;
Want to challenge your negative thinking patterns;
Need some clarity in some areas of your life;
Be ready to learn new techniques which will enable you to cope better;
Feel the time is right to focus on personal growth; or
Feel somebody else may benefit from talking about what's going on for them.
It can often feel scary, nerve wracking and sometimes overwhelming talking to a complete stranger, and that's natural to feel that way. I provide a friendly, non-judgemental & safe environment within a warm, comfortable, and inviting counselling room.
Person-centred counselling is a non-directive client lead talking therapy; sessions provide you with a safe place to talk.
I work with individuals (aged 11 onwards), families and couples, who present with a variety of issues from exam stress, anxiety, depression, peer pressure, bereavement, infidelity, friendship issues, current or historic abuse (sexual or domestic) and family relationships.
I'm situated close to junction 4 of the M18, with off-road parking.
I attend supervision once a month.
My counselling practice is carried out from a converted Summer House in the garden. It is fully sound proofed with views onto the garden, offering a calm, cozy and safe environment. Drinks are available.
I practice person-centred counselling which is a non-directive talking therapy. I often use some aspects of CBT and use activities when working with children & young people to help them feel more relaxed.
My first session
At your first session I will ask you to complete a personal details form, read & sign a privacy agreement (inline with GDPR) and I'll talk through my contract. We'll talk through confidentiality and when this may need to be broken.
The first session is for us to get to know each other and to build our relationship.
Clients often find that they jump about with the things they talk about in a first session and that's perfectly fine. Dump whatever is in your head out and then we can pick through it.
