About me and my therapy practice

Many people experience trauma in their life — sometimes it just comes out the blue, like bereavement, a difficult relationship, unemployment — the list is endless. At other times you've been aware of a problem that needs to be dealt with,  a situation that troubles you — anxiety, low self esteem, panic attacks — dare I say it but this list is also endless.

You will find that I offer a non judgmental and confidential service. Through listening, reflections and silences we can begin a journey together which, hopefully, will lead you to become more self-aware, more capable and more trusting of yourself than you've ever been.

Sometimes taking that first step is the hardest — the phone call, the text or the email but it's an adventure — often challenging — but an adventure which we share together and I'm sure once you embark upon that new journey life will never be the same again.

About me and my therapy practice

You suffer from anxiety, or low self esteem, maybe it's flashbacks from traumatic episodes? It could be addiction, loneliness, anger, bereavement, abuse . . . many people struggle on a day to day basis  without having anyone they can turn to — possibly not even a partner or a parent or their best friend. Life need not be like that and it's finding the courage and the conviction to contact a therapist who will seek to understand your stuff — those things which make up your story no matter how difficult it is to share that side of you.

Picking up the phone or sending an email/text to a counsellor can be one of the hardest things a person might do. Nevertheless it is often the first step to health and well-being and that decision could be a life changing and positive step for you.

I have worked for over thirty years in various communities engaging with and learning from many diverse and unique individuals. I am therefore very conscious that life can throw up a variety of unexpected hurdles which hinder our growth, development and ultimately our happiness. I have counselled individuals who have suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, addictions, sexual/physical/emotional abuse, bereavement, traumas, paranoia, anger management, depression — indeed the list is endless — but I like to think that the vast majority have been able to move on from their initial state.

As a person-centred therapist I will offer the space and understanding for you to explore your feelings in a safe, non-judgemental environment.

Our first session will involve some paperwork — not the most exciting thing but needs must — as well as explaining what therapy is and maybe more importantly what it isn't. We'll talk about trust, confidentiality, acceptance and hopefully — at some point — you'll soon realise that taking that first step was a positive one.
