About me and my therapy practice
The main question we have when we are wondering about starting therapy/counselling is, "Can they help me?", "Would I benefit from this?".
As vulnerable and fearful as we may feel when facing struggles, our hope in engaging in therapy/counselling is that someone who is qualified can provide some assistance for managing our lives more effectively. We hope to be really listened to and understood, validated and supported, as well as finding solutions and skills to help us manage our lives more easily.
My psychotherapy practice is currently based in two locations; Clifton (BS8) and Portishead (BS20). It is a practice where you will find genuine empathy, a deep understanding of what it means to struggle, an advocate and someone who will align themselves with you and your journey towards an improved sense of well being. Our work together will be collaborative and trustworthy, always with a sense of hope that you can achieve the goals you set out for yourself.
My passion for psychology, as well as my training and experience, has developed over decades. I bring life experience and dedication to the field and a sincere desire to see you flourish. My approach is mainly psychodynamic and existential. I utilise CBT techniques, mindfulness, am solution focused and when working with families, view the family as a system.
I provide individual and family therapy, working with youngsters and adults from a wide array of backgrounds. Some of my experience includes working with teenagers within the criminal justice system, mood disorders (e.g. anxiety & depression), self esteem & identity, life transitions (e.g. new mothers, "empty nesters", relocating stressors), relationship issues, sexual orientation (LGBTQIA), grief & substance use/abuse.
