About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Dr Cloie Parfitt. I'm a psychotherapist providing both short-term and long-term therapy to clients online based in the UK and around the world.

I work as an integrative practitioner, drawing upon several major therapeutic approaches and blending these to best suit your individual needs. My core training is in the person-centred and psychodynamic approaches to therapy and each of these approaches influence my work with clients. As a relational therapist, I’m interested in the ways in which our past experiences and relationships affect our current relationships, both with others and with ourselves. Throughout the course of our lives, we are often hurt within relationships, but I believe that it is through meaningful and nurturing relationships that we can also be healed. Likewise, I strongly believe that each person has an innate potential for personal growth and that, given the right circumstances, we can all grow to reach our full potential. My role as your therapist is to create the right environment – one in which you feel safe, accepted, and valued – to explore your emotions, thoughts, and experiences, allowing this growth to take place.

Within my private practice, I specialise in working with various types of neurodivergence and this is an area I am immensely passionate about. Having both personal and professional experience regarding autism, I am familiar with the challenges that come with living in a world that is not always accepting or understanding of the neurodivergent. It is my belief that with neurodivergence comes unique talents, and one of my greatest joys as a therapist is helping empower people to utilise these strengths and to live freely and authentically.

The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.

Practice description

I’ve worked in the mental health field for over eight years in a variety of roles - mental health nurse, psychotherapist, peer support worker, development mentor and support group facilitator - and within various settings. Prior to beginning private work with clients, I worked as a psychotherapist with adults, young people, and families within schools and various charitable organisations. I have experience working with a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, addiction, childhood abuse, complex trauma/CPTSD, and relational trauma.

Since completing my initial practitioner training, I've undertaken a number of professional development and certification courses, including those relevant to working therapeutically online, utilising creative techniques within therapy, and working with complex trauma and traumatic stress. I'm committed to ongoing professional and personal development to ensure my practice is fully informed and up-to-date.

My first session

The first session is somewhat different from following sessions in that there is some important paperwork we will complete together at the beginning. I will also explain my practice’s policies and explain a bit more about the therapy process and how I work. After we’ve completed the necessary paperwork, I’ve answered any questions you might have, and we’ve reviewed our contract for working together, we can use the remaining 45-50 minutes to discuss what has brought you to therapy and how you feel therapy might help you. I will also ask you some questions about your personal history and current circumstances. This first session helps me get to know you and get a feel for who you are and what you want to address, which will likely continue to evolve as we carry on working together.
