About me and my therapy practice
Often the question asked is, why do I need to go to therapy? or what does a therapist even do? The way I often feel I can answer these questions are, as people we are mostly and often left alone with our own thoughts, we find ourselves overthinking, or avoiding, or in patterns of behaviours that we cannot understand or get out of. Therefore, the space of therapy provides a space for you to experience something new, that is, to not be left alone with all these thoughts and worries, to have someone think about your thinking and to collaboratively explore what's been unhelpful in life for you, and what is helpful.
I am an experienced psychotherapist and registered counsellor in my final year of doctoral training in counselling psychology. I have 9 years of experience working in the NHS mental health services and private services. I have worked in High Secure Forensic Services (NHS), Specialist Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (NHS), Early interventions for Psychosis (NHS), Low/medium secure psychiatric intensive care units (private), Women and Girls network for gendered based violence (Charity), IAPT talking therapies (NHS) and private therapy.
I am currently completing my final year of doctoral training.
I have worked with a range of presenting difficulties, including common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. I also have experience working with relational difficulties, emotional abuse, physical abuse, domestic violence, grief, loss, personality disorders, trauma, sexual abuse, schizophrenia, trauma and intergenerational trauma and OCD.
I value how individuals makes sense of their experiences and their lives. I work with a pluralistic approach to meet the client where they are psychologically. This means I integrate person-centred therapy, psychodynamic theory and Cognitive-behavioural therapy techniques to maximise understanding, compassion and healing for my clients.
I adopt an approach to ensure my clients feel they are within a safe, trusting, respectful and confidential space where they are able to share their difficulties and reach a shared understanding of what could work for them. I hold a non-judgemental and empathetic stance that acknowledges the importance of context and diversity. I believe that people are the experts of their own lives, and utilising therapy to overcome life challenges can support them in their unique journey.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further questions or queries.
