About me and my therapy practice

In the busy pace of today's world, it can be difficult to find the time to sit with our thoughts and feelings.  It can also be challenging to lay them out before someone else or to speak from the heart without fear of judgement.

As a Person-Centred Counsellor, I offer to sit alongside you with an open, enquiring mind and an intent to understand just how life is for you.  I offer you a place of safety, openness and warmth in which you will have the opportunity and space to explore whatever conflict or distress that has led you to seek out counselling at this time in your life.

I am trustworthy, ethical and curious, and I hold a firm belief that given the right environment, every individual will have the chance to heal and grow.  I hold the hope that by enabling you to hear your own internal voice that it might help you to determine the path ahead.

My interest in counselling began when I was at a point of change in my own life - I was looking to expand and develop and to understand more about my own needs, strengths and skills.  It highlighted to me that personal growth can be both distressing and exciting, and that the quality and level of support that we have around us can be critical in terms of how we might respond.

Practice description

I offer a 60 minute counselling session which takes place on a weekly basis. When we first meet we would discuss together what brings you to counselling and what your hopes and expectations are, as well as agreeing a time frame for the work ahead. The relationship is at the heart of therapy and this first session might give you a sense of me and how we might work together. I will provide you with a copy of my working agreement but I welcome any questions that you might have about my training and experience.

During COVID, I have been offering sessions online and by telephone, and will continue to do so where needed, but I am also now able to offer face-to-face sessions from ground-floor premises in Bruntsfield.

I hold a post-graduate diploma in Person-Centred Counselling and I am fully insured.
