About me and my therapy practice

Are you currently living away from your home town / country? Perhaps you are trying to settle your family into a new area, new school or you are adapting to a new culture, community or job. Relocation can create a unique set emotions that can leave people feeling lonely, isolated, detached from their usual sense of emotional safety.

I understand, I have been there and I am really pleased you are here. I offer a soft place to land, aiming to make it as easy and comfortable as possible to think through what might be leaving you feeling a little too far outside of your comfort zone. Often this feeling may run alongside feelings of grief for your previous life or relationships, muddled with a sense of excitement or new purpose. My clients know me for my warmth, honesty and humour. I am experienced in working with children, adolescents and adults. Whether working creatively or quietly thinking together, we work as a team, at a pace that is directed by you.

Practice description

I help to deepen understanding of what is at the heart of an issue, together compassionately turning towards what is most in need of reflection and care. I support clients in gaining new ways of caring for their ‘whole’ self, to be their most loving advocate, and to feel safe and celebratory of who they authentically are, within any environment / relationship they find themselves in.

When focussed and directional work is required, we are able to think collaboratively to create choices and practices that are most purposeful for you. My aim to help empower you to fulfil meaningful intentions or choices that bring about the positive change you may be searching for.

About me and my therapy practice

Adjusting to parenthood is one of the most profound transitions in a lifetime. Being a new parent can feel like a vulnerable place to be and often many do not share experiences that are outside the happiness ideal. I am passionate about empowering new parents, mothers and fathers to thrive. Many things can influence and intrude on being the parents we would like to be, but it needn’t be that way.

When we take care of ourselves, taking the time to be heard, we can better care for the world around us. Many new parents do not have the emotional relationship with their own families to access the kind of support they feel they need at this time. Others have been affected by their own early life parenting and would like to create new pathways for the generations to come.

Accessing the joy in new parenthood can feel impossible when struggling with feelings of fear or doubt. As a parent myself I have walked my own path, and as a therapist 18 months of my training was commited to the study of mother and baby observations and theory. However, I do not have all the right answers, you do.

Practice description

In our work together, you will enrich your maternal/paternal instinct, connect with it, and let it thrive. You and I will connect and collaborate in a relationship rooted in trust. The deepest transformation occurs in relationships where each person feels safe expressing vulnerability, fears, and deepest wishes. I am here advocating you in that journey every step of the way.

Each parenting experience is unique, I address each enquiry in a way best suited for you.

Practice description

Life can be full of new transitions, both large and small. From adapting to new relationships to moving overseas, beginning university or starting a new job. We all experience times when we are required to find our inner anchor, our compassionate voice that supports us when we are feeling unsteady. You may be newly living away from home or trying to settle your family into a new area, a new school or within a new culture, community or job. New transitions can create a unique set emotions that can leave people feeling lonely, isolated and detached from their usual sense of emotional safety.

Having experienced many new transitions in my own life, including that as an expatriate, I aim to make it as easy and comfortable as possible to think through what might be leaving you feeling a little too far outside of your comfort zone. You may be feeling a sense of excitement or new purpose, muddled alongside feelings of grief for your previous life or relationships.

You may be feeling misunderstood, mistrusting or not ‘good enough’ as you navigate your new environment. I am able to recognise both conscious and unconscious ways of coping, and attune myself to the uniqueness of each client. Practice description

At the very heart of my work is the uniqueness of the therapeutic relationship. I am commited to each and every client, walking with them every step of the way towards positive and effective change. I offer a down-to-earth approach in an empathic environment, where all feelings and experiences can be held in a place of safety and trust, without judgment, offering authenticity and kindness.

I began working with children in the year 2000, first creatively in the arts and later as a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist. My training is in Integrative Psychotherapy, which allows me a breadth of psychotherapeutic approaches. This enables me to create a tailored way of working with my clients based on each individual’s needs. I begin each new therapeutic relationship with an initial consultation, for us to get to know each other. For child clients, this would begin with the parents/carer. This is an opportunity for me to share more on how I work and for us to discuss concerns. Some clients arrive knowing the source of discomfort and others are confused where it all began. There is no right place to start, we begin where you feel ready. This assessment session helps to provide me with ideas for a treatment plan and together we arrange a series of sessions which may be short term or more open ended work. It is often helpful to include occasional parent sessions, to consider historical relationships, attachments, family systems or traumas, providing us with a deeper understanding of self and relationships.

Along with talking therapy, I may invite the use of sand, play, toys or art, relaxation/meditation which can be useful tools for expression. However, this is entirely dependent on each individual and attuned to methods best suited for them.
