About me and my therapy practice

I have been a counsellor for over 20 years and having run a counselling service for 15 years I now focus on my private practice of counselling and supervision.

I have trained in several different styles and believe flexibility is important to meet the client where they are and adapt to their needs.

Practice description

Much of my training in in trauma and so many of the issues people face or struggle with in life have a root in trauma.  This is sometimes the case even when people do not consider their experiences as traumatic.  I am happy to work with past or present issues and how the past imacts our present.  Different styles of thereapy suit different people and I aim to be flexible in meeting my clients' needs

About me and my therapy practice

My original counselling training was humanistic and I have added a range of other modalities to this over the years.  As well as working in private practice my work includes working with emergency service personnel.  I also spent 15 years running a hospital counselling service with a team of 20 counsellors and have worked in schools.  I believe this background has given be a wide range of experience to draw on when supervising other counsellors who will each have their own styles and different needs.

Practice description

Supervision is about support and challenge and it is important that a supervisee feels safe enough to talk through successes and difficulties.  It is through our vulnerabilities that we are able to connect and learn but we are only able to talk through the things that leave us feeling vulnerable if we feel safe enough to do so.

I hope I create a safe enough environment to share difficulties whilst celebrating a supervisee's successes.

My first session

A first supervision session is about getting to meet the supervisee, understanding their working environment and client base and finding out about how they work.  It is also important to know about them and the things that help or hinder their work.
