About me and my therapy practice

Life can be a struggle, zapping your energy and leaving you exhausted. It’s very easy to get tangled up in problems. Maybe my counselling approach can show you a way to press “pause” and take a step back from life to see what’s really going on – perhaps gain a different perspective?

As a counsellor I’m very much person-centred which means I don’t direct you or tell you what to do. Instead I offer the space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and worries at your own pace.

I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach so I tailor my counselling to meet your individual needs.  This can include person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), creative therapies or mindfulness. All of this takes place in a safe and supportive environment.  We can even take your therapy outdoors if the idea of sitting in an office doesn’t appeal.

In a nutshell, you talk and I’ll really listen without judgement or advice. I’ll be in your corner to help you consider and work towards the life that you really want rather than the life you think you should have. Counselling is exciting and scary but the rewards can be fantastic.

About me and my therapy practice

Supervision is such an important resource as a counsellor and choosing a supervisor can be a difficult decision.  In my experience of supervision, the thing that has helped me the most has been the warm, honest and collaborative relationship I’ve forged with my own supervisor. This is something I aim to replicate with my own supervisees. I’d aim to build strong, working alliances which are based on trust and a mutual desire to become better practitioners.

SUPERVISION MODEL AND QUALIFICATIONS

I have a Certificate in Supervision from the Macclesfield Counselling and Training Centre.

The main model I use is the well-respected Seven-eyed Model by Hawkins and Shohet (2012). It’s a landmark model which works with the idea that supervisors can be “good enough” rather than expecting them to be the best. It recognises that we need to be honest about our work and ourselves in order to develop and grow.

COUNSELLING EXPERIENCE

I run a successful private practice from home and have done this since 2013. My roots are in person-centred counselling and that fits very well with who I am.   I have worked for Employee Assisted programmes (EAPS), within school as well as for local and national charities (Mind and the MS Society). I have also worked within a GP setting and at a local infertility clinic.

I don’t believe that counselling is a “one size” fits all approach so I am always looking at new ways to develop my counselling to reach more people. Over the past year I’ve become interested in taking therapy outdoors and have introduced “walking therapy” into my practice. It’s something I hope to integrate into my supervision too where appropriate.

I am happy to offer a free initial session (30 minutes) to discuss your requirements.   Please contact me to arrange.
