About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome to my profile! Let me first answer a question which most people ask, which is about how to pronounce my name, I’m Keila - think Sheila with a K.

I think that choosing a therapist from the internet is a bit like choosing anything from the internet; you decide from the picture and write up whether it might be right for you, but you never really know until you meet your choice. So, I will try and let you know as much as I can now and I then also offer a 30 minute, free of charge, consultation.

I am a qualified and experienced ‘integrative’ therapist and clinical supervisor (of other therapists and non-therapist professionals). The ‘integrative’ bit means that that I am trained in, and can draw on, a range of skills aiming to find the way of working which suits you best. I work online and outdoors.

Therapy with me is a collaborative experience where we work together to look at the source of the problem and find ways of enabling you to move forward in an authentic way.

You may have heard the term ‘therapeutic relationship’, this is the unique relationship which exists between us for the sole goal of helping you. More than anything else it is the therapeutic relationship which is the key element for a positive outcome, and it is my strength in the relational skills, intuitive working and use of metaphor and creativity used within the therapeutic relationship which might set me apart from other therapists you may have experienced.

I offer both short-term and longer-term therapy options. Often the difficulties we experience in life aren’t developed in an instant and working through them, solving them, healing from them doesn’t happen instantly either. Working with me means that you are given the time and space that you need, and together we will look at the expectations achievable within the time frame available.

Practice description

Sessions are 60 minutes and I work both online via Zoom, and outdoors.

Meeting online has the beautiful benefit of therapy without the limitations that can be present regarding accessibility, geography or transportation.

My outdoor work takes place on the coast at Herne Bay and can be considered a possibility after a short period of online meeting.

My first session

Once I have been contacted the process starts with an initial short telephone or Zoom call. This is an opportunity to ask any questions and to find out if it feels like we might be a good fit for working together.

The next stage is a first appointment. This will be via Zoom, the first 30 minutes are free of charge and it's when the assessment usually starts. My assessment is conversational questions and it's purpose is to give me a glimpse into your world and by looking at safety/risk it helps to ensure that we are suitable to work together.

Before the assessment you will be emailed my contract to read, sign and return. After the assessment and contracting for our work together we then engage on regular sessions according to need and mutual agreement.
