About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome to my supervision profile.

In supervision, my aim is to create a safe space for you to share the pain, joy, skills, knowledge and life experience that you bring into your role as a counsellor. I am interested in learning about you as a person and how you work with your clients. My aim will be to get a full understanding of the interpersonal process between you and  to support your self-development and awareness as well as ensure that your client is supported safely. I believe that good supervision feels safe, comfortable and challenging so that you can develop as a practitioner and your clients can receive a good and safe service and the best of you as a therapist.

I am a qualified supervisor with a Level 6 qualification in counselling supervision (integrative).    I use the Hawkins & Shohet model of supervision because it is a relational and systemic.  It is relational because it is founded on respect, active listening and being fully present in the mindful sense in the supervisory relationship.  It is an authentic approach and requires a focus on the inner experiencing of the client, supervisee and supervisor as well as the inter-relational dynamics of the client, supervisee and supervisor.  I believe this model provides a learning process in supervision that enables greater self-awareness and reflective practice.  Additionally, this approach  acknowledges the importance of taking the wider context into account such as the current and historical background and the social and power positioning of the client-therapist-supervisor.

About me and my therapy practice

Counselling can really help you when you are having a difficult time and you need some support in a confidential and safe space where you feel heard and understood. I offer a confidential and safe space and will listen attentively to you without judgement. My aims are to understand how you came to feel the way you do and through this process enable you to gain some insight and clarity on what may really be going on for you. And as you grow in self-awareness, my aims are to support you in strengthening your coping mechanisms and support you in changing unhelpful patterns and behaviours whilst enabling you to gain a deeper sense of who you are. In this way counselling can promote a greater sense of connection to self, others in relationship and acknowledgement of your own resilience and capacity for change and development.

Deciding to start counselling can bring up a whole range of mixed emotions and it can be daunting and frightening. People often feel anxious and do not know what to expect. It is a challenging time for you and therefore I offer an initial counselling assessment that provides us both with an opportunity to find out about each other and learn about what brought you to counselling and how you would like counselling to help you. I would provide you with information on how I work and what you can expect from me and the counselling process. This meeting would be for 50 minutes and I would charge at half the counselling fee rate. If you decide that you to want to go forward with counselling with me we will make arrangements for weekly therapy.
