About me and my therapy practice

Hello. My name is Colin MacGregor.  I am a BACP Accredited, person-centred counsellor.

Passionate about my work with all clients, I have a particular interest in men's mental health.

Finding the right counsellor might seem daunting.

There's a huge range of services and individuals offering different kinds of counselling or therapy. Further down this page, you'll find a list of issues I can help you with, but whatever it is that brings you to counselling might not fit neatly into any of those descriptions.

That's why I suggest we speak on the telephone for 15 to 20 minutes (free of charge) before we meet so that you can ask any questions you may have. This also gives us an opportunity to introduce ourselves to each other and to explore how we might work together.

I understand that many people still don't think counselling is for them.

I understand how difficult it might feel for you to open up about your struggles to another person. That's why I place great emphasis on the strength of the counselling relationship so that together we can more openly explore the issues that have led you to seek help.

You may be feeling low, anxious, hopeless, disappointed, lonely, angry, frightened, frustrated, or unsuccessful. Whatever your concern, feel free to get in touch and ask any questions about my experience and how counselling with me, might work for you.

I know from experience that when my clients feel understood and valued as individuals, they often begin to be able to think differently about their past, the way they feel about themselves, the way they behave and ultimately the sense of meaning and fulfilment they find in their lives.

I haven't always been a counsellor...

I've worked on a farm and on a production line, been a chartered surveyor, director of a marketing business, and volunteered in criminal justice settings. I bring life experience to counselling but the focus of my attention is always on my clients and their lives.

Practice description

At my discreet consulting room in Pensby (Wirral), I can offer you a confidential space where your worries and feelings can be aired and explored without judgment.

Training, qualifications and experience

I began my training in 2015, have an MA in Clinical Counselling, and am now an Accredited BACP Counsellor.

I am committed to BACP's requirements for ongoing learning. I read widely and regularly attend training to keep up-to-date with latest ways of working with clients’ complex needs.

More specifically, I have undertaken training with Gendered Intelligence and Pink Therapy (ongoing) so that I can offer effective and sensitive help to my LGBTQ+ clients.

Alongside my private counselling work, I spent five years with a counselling charity in Liverpool city centre which gave me a broad experience of working with 18-80 year old clients with diverse counselling needs.

My first session

At our first face-to-face session we will continue to explore how we might work together. I will not ask you to commit to a fixed number of sessions and how many you choose to attend is entirely up to you.

But making sure that you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor is really important. You might not be sure straight away but after two or three sessions, you will probably sense whether my approach is right for you.
