About me and my therapy practice
I like to start with some idea of what you hope to gain from counselling sessions. This may vary from a vague “I just want to feel happier” to a more specific aim or intention. I believe the best place to start is with what is happening for you right now. Often feelings in the body can be a good starting point for explorations of what needs most attention for you to start feeling more at ease with yourself and your life. What we often find are patterns that keep playing round and round, calling for some change. This is the work. It’s not always easy, but it is usually rewarding. It can lead to you feeling more alive as well as more engaged. More of a sense of you choosing the life you want. My aim is always for you to feel that you are welcome here and safe, seeing the benefits of spending time looking at what holds you back and finding that you can set down the burdens you carry.
My practice room is in my home in Glastonbury which is next to the gate entrance that leads up to the Tor. I am also happy to practise online via zoom or by phone. I have a designated room on the ground floor of my house which is quiet, confidential and welcoming. There is off road parking in the driveway.
My first session
Our first session will be a space for us to chat about your reasons for coming to counselling, some background medical history and whether it will make sense for us to work together. It usually lasts for about 30-45 minutes and it is free. I will draw up a working agreement with you in which we agree terms and conditions and will give you an opportunity to ask any questions you have about counselling. While it is helpful for the therapeutic process to commit to working for at least 6 sessions, there is no legal requirement for you to make such a commitment.
