About me and my therapy practice

I am an attachment-based and relational therapist, accredited member of the BACP, working with individual adults in person and online.

I strongly believe that our primary relationships and early experiences influence our present and can negatively impact on our lives, affecting how we relate to others, how we deal with endings and loss, how we cope with difficulties and challenges in our lives, even if we do not realise it. We may experience overwhelming feelings. We may feel we are not good enough, that we do not fit in, that there is something wrong with us. We might even be ashamed of who we are as a person. Relational dynamics may emerge that tend to result in us feelings preoccupied, anxious or depressed, contributing to low self-esteem. We may be left with a sense of being stuck or unable to cope with situations. Feelings such as those often occur and persist because of past deep-rooted experiences.

It can be very hard to get beyond these past experiences. I am genuinely passionate about providing my clients with a secure base for exploration of feeling and thoughts. A safe space in the company of a non-judgemental other where you can work through what brings you to therapy.

We will work in collaboration in order to gain greater understanding of the issues that have brought you to counselling. Counselling relies, to a great extent on building a human connection between counsellor and clients, where a deep level of trust is established. I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client is the core of the therapeutic process and the foundation of this relationship are empathy, exploration, compassion, connection and co-operation.

In these ways you may achieve resolution of long-standing conflicts, may process even the toughest experiences and to become more confident and genuine in the way you relate to other people in your life.

My first session

The first session is very much about building a shared understanding and a foundation for our work together. I will find out what is bringing you to therapy and what you are hoping to get out of it. I will also take a throughout life history as I am interested in the whole person. Please note that this can take up to few sessions.

Once the assessment is completed, we will decide if we are both comfortable to proceed. If we are, we will move to the main part of our work. We will then meet weekly and our sessions will last 50 minutes. Regularity and continuity are especially important to good therapy.

You may set up your first appointment by sending me an email with a brief description of your situation together with any other relevant information or questions. Or call me for a free 20 minute phone consultation where we can briefly discuss the reasons for you seeking counselling and how counselling can help you.
