About me and my therapy practice

I'm Louise, a psychotherapist. I worked for many years as a CBT therapist in the NHS. I am also psychodynamically trained. I have done level 1 internal family systems (IFS) training too.

I work with individuals to look at the current patterns of difficulty. These can often be difficulties we face in relating to ourselves and to others. We look for patterns, patterns that are often outside our conscious awareness.

The therapeutic relationship is somewhere safe to work with our difficulties. My job as the therapist is to be a neutral other. The regularity and reliability of this relationship is what can really help us to look at what is going on.

People may come for therapy because of uncomfortable symptoms they are experiencing or due to something they can't quite put their finger on. An initial consultation would help us to look at what's currently happening and think about ways we could work together. This can be for shorter term, time limited work where there is a clear difficulty or pattern. Or it may be longer term, open ended more exploratory work.

IFS can be used as part of therapy, or this may be something you are interest in pursuing more directly. We can really look at what will be the right fit for you.

I offer outdoor therapy sessions as part of my practice. Walking whilst taking may be beneficial for you. This is risk assessed beforehand, confidentiality being a major part of what I will consider with you.

Practice description

I established my private practice in 2013. I worked as a therapist in the NHS for 16 years.

I offer face to face appointments at my room in Chorlton. Outdoor therapy is offered in the South Manchester area.

As a result of the pandemic I have found video and telephone to be a useful way of working. I can work with you remotely if access is an issue.

My practice is psychodynamically informed. This is the primary way I will consider what you bring to therapy, looking at what may be difficult to name.

My first session

An initial consultation or consultations is the best way to start. This helps us to think about the way I work and the needs you have. Some people choose to have up to 4 consultations before beginning therapy. In the initial session it's helpful to think about what you might want to get from the therapy, as well as if you want to engage in a shorter term, focused piece of work (minimum 16 sessions), or in more open ended ongoing work.
