About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome.
I am a qualified and experience counsellor with a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and with certificates in a wide range of other therapeutic practices. I also have experience in using art and imagery and in working with and listening to the body to help us find out what is going on within us. Counselling can help us to better understand and to deal with a wide range of difficulties by giving you time and space to focus on you, to explore your life today and in the past in a supportive, non-judgemental relationship leading to greater self-acceptance and understanding.
The decision to come to counselling and finding a counsellor who feels right for you can be daunting. Our counselling sessions will begin with an initial appointment. I believe that the counselling relationship is crucial to the success of the therapy and the initial appointment should help us to find out whether or not we feel that we could work together.
• I am a Registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)
• I adhere to the BACP's Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions
• I am a member of the Hampshire Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (HACP)
• I attend monthly clinical supervision, which is a consultative process to support my work
• I attend a monthly support/discussion group to support my practice and explore ideas and experiences
I work from The Hamblin Centre in Bosham, near Chichester, from the Victory Business Centre in Portsmouth and also from home on line and by telephone. The Hamblin Centre has ample parking and is situated within walking distance of the railway and bus stop, and the Victory Business Centre is e few minutes walk walk from Fratton station, close to bus routes and there is limited on road parking near by. Sessions are for 50 minutes.
My first session
At the initial appointment I will ask you in your own time and in your own words to tell me what has brought you to seek counselling. I may ask you a couple of questions – for example about your hopes and expectations of therapeutic counselling, or about any previous periods of distress or difficulty you may have experienced. I may ask you to tell me a little about your childhood or important relationships. But mostly I will be listening, and supporting you to describe in your own words, what might be troubling or preoccupying you.
You may also have questions to ask me about my approach and the therapeutic process, and I will do my best to answer these as clearly as possible.
Towards the end of the session, we will come to an agreement about whether we are going to continue working together. If we agree to go ahead, we will arrange when we will meet to begin our regular weekly counselling sessions.
