About me and my therapy practice

I have counselled people of all ages (5-85) in schools, universities and community organisations for over ten years. I now offer private counselling sessions to both children and adults from my comfortable therapy room in Hull City Centre.

Counselling aims to help a person clarify difficult feelings, get to know and accept themselves better, think about the choices they have and consider any changes they might want to make in their lives. I am an Integrative therapist which means that I incorporate a range of counselling theories in to my work and adapt my style to best meet the needs of each person.

I listen to what you say and pick out the key themes which emerge in order to clarify for you what is going on for you at the moment. People often feel relieved by this process and you may find that this is all you need.

However, some people may want to know how their attitudes, thoughts and feelings interlink and where they originate from in order to understand themselves better. If this is the case then I can help you to think more deeply about how your beliefs have come to be formed and how they are affecting you now.

You may want to go on to think about changes you would like to make in your life. These could be changes to your way of looking at yourself and at the world, at your past and at your future, or they could be practical changes to your daily life. You could choose to talk with me about what changes you would like to make and together we can think through a plan for how these changes could be made, and embedded, so that they stay with you after the counselling sessions have finished.

There is more information about how I work on my website, including how I work with children and younger people. To book an appointment please contact me confidentially by telephone or through the contact form on this site. I aim to reply to enquiries within 48 hours.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer individual and group supervision to therapists, both those in training and those who are qualified. I supervise therapists working with children as well as with adults. I am a BACP Accredited member and supervise in accordance with the BACP's Ethical Framework.

I have supervised therapists since 2013 and have worked with over 40 practitioners to date. These have included therapists from a variety of theoretical orientations: person-centred, psychodynamic, integrative, gestalt, cognitive behavioural therapists, art therapists and drama therapists.

I base my supervisory model on Hawkins and Shohet’s 7 eyed model meaning I actively consider 7 aspects of therapeutic work: the client; the therapeutic techniques used by the therapist; the relationship between client and therapist; the therapist’s process; the relationship between the therapist and supervisor; the supervisor’s process; the wider context (both organisational and societal) within which the counselling is taking place.

I also use aspects of Page and Wosket’s cyclical model in that I seek a clear supervisory contract, to structure each session with a mutually agreed focus, and will explicitly ask supervisees how reflection in supervision will be applied in the counselling room.

I value empathy and honesty in the supervisory relationship, creating a supportive secure base from which to work. I enjoy using creative materials and techniques when helpful for the supervisee(s) to enrich clinical thinking.

I offer individual and group appointments of varying lengths. To discuss whether supervision with me could be helpful for you, you can contact me confidentially using the contact details on this site. Alternatively, there is a direct appointment booking facility on my website. I aim to reply to enquiries within 48 hours.
