About me and my therapy practice
Do you appear to those around you to be functioning, whilst privately struggling with thoughts and feelings that leave you worried about your ability to cope? Are self -doubt, depression or anxiety holding you back? Have you tried to make things better, yet continue to find yourself feeling stuck, repeating harmful, painful patterns of emotion and behaviour?
I bring warmth and helpful challenge to my work as a psychotherapist and believe the relationship that we form together is fundamental to any successful therapy. Having been part of psychotherapy departments and teams in various NHS and educational settings, I'm experienced in working with a wide range of emotional difficulties, including anxiety, depression, issues around self-esteem and identity, family problems and adverse childhood experiences. I'm based in West London and for now, am offering sessions exclusively online, via zoom.
There are times in all our lives when our emotions feel overwhelming, we can feel distressed, confused, unhappy, and even worry about becoming unwell with a mental health problem. We may not understand what's caused our current situation or know how to make things better on our own. I offer a type of engagement that encourages and supports your reflection, so that together we can begin to get a clearer picture of the challenges you are facing.
At the heart of my approach is a recognition that our often-unconscious emotional life is a fundamental part of being human. Regular sessions provide a stable structure that allows us to connect with and understand what happens for you at a deeper level.
We can explore recurring conflicts and patterns of relating in the present, as well as difficult experiences and memories. There may be fears and beliefs you previously adopted, that might continue to shape what happens now in ways you wouldn't wish for. Your present relationships may bear echoes from the past and we can consider how this affects your view of yourself, where self-esteem and identity may be an issue.
Thinking together about your unique experiences helps to begin making sense of confusing thoughts and feelings and allows life to feel more manageable. Painful parts of your life can feel easier to bear and understand, and new possibility can begin opening up, even in areas that had previously felt stuck.
My first session
In our first meeting, we will discuss some of your personal history, your current situation and issues you would like help with. I will ask more questions in this meeting than in our subsequent work, where the time will be more open to use as you wish. We will also go over your ongoing availability, fees and the timescale of work necessary.
