About me and my therapy practice

Hello and Welcome. My name is Katie Hendrick and I am a HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist. I offer a trusted and professional private practice working from the Life Academy, Edinburgh and in Trauma Psychotherapy Scotland, based in Glasgow, offering short and long term therapy to individuals.

I have trained in Trinity College Dublin graduating in 2001 and have worked in a range of settings inclusive of psychiatry, consultancy, Student Counselling Services and lecturing. Many people contact me because they are feeling sad, depressed or anxious. However there is no hard or fast reason to make contact. If you feel that it would be of benefit to you to talk to a clinician, you are very welcome and it is often the first step that is the hardest to take.

Counselling Psychology embraces a number of therapy modalities and I have trained in mindfulness; dialectical behavioural therapy; extensive trauma training in cognitive therapy and for the past number of years trained in different levels of the comprehensive resource model that is incorporated into a psychotherapeutic relationship. More recently, I have trained in Deep Brain Re-orienting (DBR) with Dr Frank Corrigan. For further details, please refer to the website.

People are often confused about the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist and the NHS have outlined this here: https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/psychological-therapies/differences-between-psychology-psychiatry-and-psychotherapy

For an introduction to the comprehensive resource model, Lisa Schwartz explains it here:

I offer specialist consultancy by arrangement and I am registered with the protection of vulnerable groups, Disclosure Scotland.

Practice description

I offer individual sessions which are currently via zoom due to covid 19. I can be contacted for a free 30 min introductory chat.

Recent developments in 2021, co facilitation of Basic and Advanced Deep Brain Reorienting, Dr Frank Corrigan and Sussex Psychology.

My first session

A first session involves some paperwork where Registration and the policy of the service are reviewed as important components before proceeding with therapeutic interventions. I typically use CORE 34 questionnaire sent on the morning of the appointment and the 1st session really is about talking through the personal and family history and determining what are the current issues and goals. Also , for any questions about the therapy modalities and their application to the individual. There is a range of information (video; Bio; articles; website resources) within the website which is monitored and updated regularly.
