About me and my therapy practice
We all experience difficulties in our lives, and sometimes we can feel overwhelmed or struggle to make changes to relieve our distress or problems. Meeting with a counsellor can help you talk about your story, opening up new opportunities to see yourself separate from your problems. By gaining a better understanding of the self you can bring an alternative story out of the shadows, which could empower you to make changes and improve your relationships.
My core approach is person centred; which means I will support you to gain an understanding of your difficulties from your perspective, and together find ways to move forward and reach your goals, developing your sense of self. I studied at the University West of England and have a Diploma in Counselling and trained in psychodynamic approaches; sometimes it can be useful to explore how our early experiences and unconscious processes maybe influencing our present difficulties. Other models I may draw upon in sessions are Compassion Focused and Cognitive Behaviour informed approaches. There is also an opportunity to explore past, present or perceived future difficulties creatively and I may invite you to use figures, suggest art making or writing to explore your feelings. This will be an invitation and always your choice.
I am a registered with the BACP and work with adults aged 18 and over. I have over 25 years’ experience working with people with mental health difficulties and currently work in the NHS with adults and young people who experience mental health problems and other complex needs.
