About me and my therapy practice

I see individuals or couples, providing a confidential service in which you are supported in addressing your particular needs.  We will work together in gaining insight into your problems and exploring how you would like things to be different.

Since 1998 I have been practising as a counsellor in a variety of settings.  Within the professional counselling relationship I aim to provide non-judgemental acceptance, empathy and genuineness.   I adapt my approach to suit the needs and aptitudes of each individual, and I work with a range of issues.   Clients are supported in understanding their feelings, clarifying their thoughts and utilising their own resources, with a view to making the changes they desire.

I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.   I abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a Person-Centred counsellor and supervisor, whose approach is based on the principles and ‘way of being’ described by Carl Rogers. I seek to offer the core conditions of non-judgemental acceptance, empathy and congruence, and to establish a working alliance built on openness, honesty, trust and respect.

I see supervision as serving the twin purposes of ensuring the welfare of the client and the development of the supervisee. The supervisee would decide on the focus for each supervision session, but the supervisor would maintain an overview of the supervisee’s caseload. Attention is paid to the client’s issues, the supervisee’s own thoughts and feelings with regard to the client, adherence to the relevant Code of Ethics (eg the BACP Ethical Framework), the requirements of the counselling organisation and, where applicable, the training organisation. I would encourage the supervisee to relate theory to practice, and look at ways of applying the learning gained from supervision.

I believe that supervision has many parallels with the counselling process itself. I aim to provide a facilitative environment in which supervisees will feel safe enough to bring their questions, their strengths and their perceived weaknesses. In a spirit of ‘collaborative enquiry’, we will look together at an issue and explore the best way forward. I may make suggestions and offer some theoretical input, but I will trust the supervisee to take whatever they find useful and to use it if appropriate and in their own particular style. I seek to provide a professional relationship in which the supervisee is open to receive both support and challenge.

I have an Advanced Certificate in Person Centred Counselling Supervision, awarded by the University of East Anglia, and I have 16 years’ experience as a supervisor.
