"Helping you find a way forward"
Following a loss, we can experience many emotions, distress, unease, hopelessness, sadness, and find ourselves questioning what now. We can explore this together so that you can make sense of what has happened, start to heal and move forward in your life.
Loss comes in many forms, bereavement, divorce, relationship breakdown, pet, redundancy, retirement, empty nest to name a few.
For me there can be many right answers to the same question. If I relate this to therapy this means, there are many different approaches that can be used for the same issue. What might work for one person may not be the same for another.
I work pluralistically which means that we will agree together the direction and goals for your therapy sessions. I am open to working in your preferred way. If I am not qualified in your preferred method, then I will support you to find a therapist who is.
If you have previous experience of counselling, then I would expect us to discuss your therapeutic preferences based on what you have found to have worked for you. Over time the direction and goals you have may change; we will have regular reviews to discuss this and agree any changes to the direction of our work together.
I trained as an integrative therapeutic counsellor covering many modalities and have continued to carry out training activities to enhance my skills and what I can offer to you.
Often taking the first step to contact a counsellor can be the hardest. I offer a free fifteen minute call so that you can talk me and consider if I am the right counsellor. Currently I offer Live online sessions using Zoom or telephone counselling only.
When offering face to face appointments I work from a converted summer house set in a tranquil garden near Romford town centre, just ten minutes walk or a short bus ride.
Sessions last for 50 minutes. This is your time and I will be led by you and what you want to talk about.
You may be wondering how many sessions you will need, this is always difficult to know. I can work with you on a single issue in as little as a single session or we may work together over a longer period. It will be your choice and you can discuss this with me at any time.
My first session
During our first session I will carry out an assessment, you will be able to tell me more about what has bought you to counselling and I will be able to get a better understanding of what is going on for you and how best I can support you. If I believe I am not the best counsellor for you then I will discuss this with you and possible referrals.
We will also talk about our working contract and discuss how we are going to work together and the focus for your sessions. This session is about getting to know each other.
