About me and my therapy practice

I offer one-to one Psychodynamic, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. This is a well established and evidence-based talking therapy that can effectively treat emotional problems as well as a wide range of mental health conditions including: anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Sessions are booked for the same time every week and range from single to up to four sessions a week. They provide the space to talk about and reflect upon your emotional and relationship difficulties. These are thought about as they relate to your present circumstances but in this type of therapy, they are also considered in relation to your whole life experience, including your childhood.

Practice description

Our minds are complex and we all experience contrasting emotions that may feel overwhelmingly painful or confusing at times. You may be seeking help for a specific reason such as coping with, and gaining greater understanding of, your eating disorder, obsessional behaviour, neurodevelopmental condition, substance misuse or debilitating phobia. You may suffer from entrenched feelings of depression or anxiety that create difficulties and dissatisfactions in life -perhaps at work, when relating to people or within certain types of relationships. The approach I offer is to think about the patterns of behaviour that you adopt to cope with difficult feelings, or certain states of mind. We will work together to comprehend the full extent of how your past has shaped the person you are, as well as your current feelings, relationships and lifestyle behaviours. Following initial assessment, therapeutic sessions are relatively unstructured and you are encouraged to explore your problems and worries. This may lead to deep seated changes and emotional development, alongside relieving your troubling symptoms. Having a non-judgemental relationship with a person who listens carefully when you discuss the feelings you have about yourself, and other people, can be very helpful in making sense of your mind.

My first session

I offer a free initial consultation by Zoom, or telephone for 15-30 minutes.

If we decide to proceed to assessment, I will then undertake two assessment sessions of approximately an hour and a quarter with you for an enhanced rate of £60.

Following these initial sessions, once key themes have been identified, we will decide together how to proceed with therapy.
