About me and my therapy practice
Hi - I am an experienced Person-centred counsellor.
I have worked with a wide range of clients, of all ages - from teenagers to clients in their 70’s. I am experienced in counselling for loss and bereavement, self-esteem and confidence, anxiety, depression, relationship and other family related issues, stress and work related difficulties.
Being person-centred means that the way I work, involves putting you at the very centre of the counselling process, so we will focus on what is important to you and what you want to achieve through counselling
As well as dealing with the wide range of issues above, I have a special interest in working with issues related to ‘loss’. This includes bereavement counselling, but also extends to clients who have experienced loss in other ways such as loss of career, friendship or personal identity.
Coping with feelings of loss can be a very difficult & lonely process. These feelings can be triggered by life’s many challenges, including the ageing process, a deterioration in health or changes in lifestyle, career or family circumstances.
I offer a free, 30 minute initial consultation which can be done face to face or over the telephone if you prefer.
I am currently employed as a counsellor in a local authority, providing support to employees via occupational health.
Besides private practice, my counselling experience includes being a counsellor in a large Further Education College, a local University, a Community Counselling Service and a Family Counselling Centre.
In addition, I have worked as a counsellor in a hospice setting, counselling patients who have life-limiting illnesses and their families.
I have a specialist Diploma in Grief and Bereavement Counselling & I am currently studying on a Pet Bereavement Counselling Certificate.
My first session
I offer a free, thirty minute consultation which provides an opportunity for us both to see how we feel about working together.
Consultations are friendly but structured, to allow for a discussion of your current situation, the difficulties you are experiencing & your expectations of the counselling process.
We can discuss how counselling could possibly help & specifically, the way I might approach the issues you are bringing from a person-centred perspective. If I do not feel I am the right counsellor for you, I may refer you to other services or therapists more appropriate to your needs.
We will also cover practicalities such as availability, costs of sessions & payment methods.
Potential clients are asked to reflect on whether they wish to proceed after they leave the consultation - they are not asked to make a decision during our first meeting.
I will also make potential clients aware of my counselling agreement & privacy statement at this first meeting.
