About me and my therapy practice
I help people who are experiencing feelings of loss, grief or anxiety or who may be struggling with issues related to self-worth.
If you are suffering grief due to bereavement or other life losses, (such as loss of relationships, career, changes in lifestyle, health or family circumstances), I can provide an opportunity to talk honestly & openly about your feelings and support you to begin to find a way forward.
For those experiencing anxiety or panic, I can help you to feel calmer & more in control - helping you to understand how your anxiety ‘works’ and developing practical strategies to reduce and overcome your anxious thoughts and feelings.
If you feel you have issues relating to your self-confidence or self-worth, I can work with you to develop a stronger sense of belief in yourself & a healthy & more positive way of thinking about you.
Our sessions will be purposeful, but informal. I want you to look forward to your sessions & feel listened to, valued & understood. I have a relaxed & friendly manner & can usually put people at ease very quickly.
I believe it is vital that you find the right counsellor for you - that’s why I offer a free consultation so that we can both see how we feel about working together before making a commitment.
Besides private practice, my counselling experience includes being a counsellor in a large Further Education College, a local University, a Family Counselling Centre & for local authority occupational health services.
In addition, I have worked as a counsellor in hospice settings, counselling patients who have life-limiting illnesses and their families.
I have specialist qualifications in Grief & Bereavement & in Pet Bereavement Counselling.
My first session
I offer a free, thirty minute consultation which provides an opportunity for us both to see how we feel about working together.
Consultations are friendly but structured, to allow for a discussion of your current situation, the difficulties you are experiencing & your expectations of the counselling process.
We can discuss how counselling could possibly help & specifically, the way I might approach the issues you are bringing from a person-centred perspective. If I do not feel I am the right counsellor for you, I may refer you to other services or therapists more appropriate to your needs.
We will also cover practicalities such as availability, costs of sessions & payment methods.
Potential clients are asked to reflect on whether they wish to proceed after they leave the consultation - they are not asked to make a decision during our first meeting.
I will also make potential clients aware of my counselling agreement & privacy statement at this first meeting.
