About me and my therapy practice

With over 20 years experience as a counsellor, I provide a space to work through issues that may be affecting your life in short or long term therapy. These may be things from your past, what's going on at the moment, or worries about the future.  I work with adults and young people 14-18 years old, using the Person Centred approach. I work flexibly to suit individual needs and have very positive feedback.

Lots of things may be affecting you – large and small. Or just one thing is having an impact on your life. It may be issues with family, college, school, work, home life, childhood experiences, relationships, accidents, past trauma, illness – anything. It's important to build the trust with a counsellor so that you feel able to look at things you are struggling with in a safe and supportive space.   I can help you to work through issues, so you can live in a way that feels more balanced and grounded.

Although I also work with adults, I have many years experience working with young people aged 14+. The Person Centred approach works well for many young people, particularly teenagers, as they are in control of the process at a time when life can feel challenging, with so many changes happening and choices to be made.

Practice description

Everyone is different and we will work together to understand and make sense of the layers of why things are as they are, what things may mean - in a way that makes sense to you.  Looking at what you may want to change and how you want to do that.

I often describe counselling as a bit like doing a jigsaw together, or unknotting a tangle of string, or doing a form of life archeology.

Person Centred counselling is non-directive and supportive, so you can work through issues at your own pace.  We would develop a working relationship together and it's my role to work alongside you in a way that is helpful.  There is no right or wrong way to do this - but your way - which we will work out together.

My first session

At the Introductory meeting, which is free, you will be able to find out more about how we could work together.   I will explain about how I work in more detail and you will be invited to share a bit about why you want to come for counselling, so we can have a conversation about that.  You can check out the room and ask any questions.   There is no obligation to book in an appointment at this stage - you can go away and have a think about it.

If you decide to start counselling, we will go through the contract at the first session [which I will have emailed to you] and then we can begin to work together.   Things will go at your pace and in your timeframe.
