About me and my therapy practice

I am an accredited, experienced counsellor, qualified at postgraduate level. I can offer you a safe, supportive space to explore troubling thoughts and feelings and to seek out new ways of coping with, or changing, what is distressing or unsatisfying in your life.

People come to counselling for many reasons. For some, sadness, anxiety or self-doubt can suddenly seem to well up out of nowhere. For others, they may feel like a familiar and unwelcome companion. Perhaps a relationship has become difficult – perhaps it always has been. Someone close leaves or dies. Situations at home or work change and it’s hard to adjust. Sometimes life just rushes by and who we are, and what we want, gets lost along the way.

I believe that gaining a better understanding of ourselves, with all our vulnerabilities and strengths, can help us make choices that serve us better and strengthen our ability to meet life's challenges. I work alongside my clients to find a way through their current concerns that is helpful to them now and that they can draw on in the future.

My core training is psychodynamic – I believe that having an awareness of where our present behaviour has been unconsciously influenced by past experiences frees up more choices and helps us to avoid repeating patterns of behaviour that end up causing us pain. I also draw on techniques from post-qualification workshops and training in, for example, trauma therapy and CBT skills.
