About me and my therapy practice
My background is in health and social care working predominately within the London area. I trained initially as a mental health nurse within a hospital setting then moved to work within the community once qualified. During my time within the community setting, I mainly worked with clients who suffered with depression and anxiety visiting them at home supporting them and their families. Liaising with other health care professionals i.e. GP social workers and other therapist.
After gaining experience within this field, I decided to take up a post managing a day centre for clients with mental health difficulties. The service supported clients back into education/employment through various means such as group therapy, individual key work sessions and practical life skills. This enabled the client to reach their full potential and return successfully back to education /employment.
I have also had experience working for one of the largest mental health charities, Mind, working as a group facilitator This form of group therapy creates a safe space for clients to explore their feelings and feel supported by other members.
Recently I have completed a certificate in counselling children and young people. The course was with the renowned charity Place2be
JM Counselling Services will provide you with a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space where you can openly and freely explore your thoughts and feelings and examine your behaviours.
Together, we explore both the internal and external conflicts and look where these might have originated from, can lead to insights, awareness and positive change.
As the Client, you may find over a period of time that you increase your personal resilience and resourcefulness. You may also find that your quality of life improves as you cope more effectively by being able to make appropriate decisions and act on them accordingly.
My first session
If you have decided to take the initial step in contacting me, our initial meeting will give you the opportunity to explore the issues of why you decided to come for counselling and get to know each other. If you decide to take up counselling, we will establish a counselling contract (regular day, session time and fee) including a confidentiality agreement.
The number of Counselling sessions agreed with each individual Client will depend upon the needs of the Client and what is to be addressed. Typically the Counselling sessions may be relatively short approximately 6-12 sessions; more intense work may require longer, this will be regularly reviewed? Therapy sessions last for 50 minutes and are usually held on a weekly basis or according to the Clients’ schedule.
