About me and my therapy practice

Life doesn't always go how we want or plan it to. It throws things in our way and we try to find a way though using whatever we can to cope. If you have found your way to this page, I imagine your way through isn't working anymore and you are searching for something else. This is where counselling can give you some space to talk about what is happening and explore different avenues.

My name is Zoe and I am a qualified integrative counsellor who works under a professional ethical framework. This means I see people being made up of many different aspects including physical, emotional, sociological, mental, sexual and spiritual. There can be different ways to assist with people's needs and finding a new path, like different tools in a tool box, that we can explore together. Sometimes we also don't have the words to express ourselves, and we can explore being more creative, using writing, drawing, pictures, therapy cards or any other way that helps you to get your thoughts out.

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked as a teacher in Asia which has allowed for experience in living and working within a culture different from my own, and working with people from a number of different backgrounds. Since working as a counsellor, I have had experience working with those seeking counselling through a low cost agency, as well as clients using the NHS IAPTs system.

Practice description

I offer an open, non-judgemental space for you to bring all of you: the parts that you like and show to the rest of the world, and, when you are ready, the parts you don't like and that you find harder to look at. Counselling is about exploring together. The heart of my counselling practice is humanistic, which means I believe you are the expert of your own life. My job is to walk alongside you and help you reflect and discover new paths and explore new ways of seeing situations. I will not tell you what to do or think, but help you to find your own way.

I work across a range of issues including but not exclusively depression, anxiety, work-related stress, loneliness, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss. I have a special interest in trauma, abuse, cultural issues and working with faith/belief. Faith can be a great asset in finding your way through the world, but it can equally be the things causing hurt and confusion.

My first session

I offer counselling from purpose designed counselling rooms, a short walk from Addiscombe tram stop, which itself is a short journey from East Croydon station. If you would like to meet, please feel free to get in touch and we can arrange an initial assessment. This sessions allows for me to get to know some information about you and for you to ask any questions you have. From this we can make a decision about future work together. I offer long-term and short-term work, either face to face or online.
