About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Diana Simpson-Hinds I am a qualified and experienced Psychotherapist and the owner of Blooming Families. I have been supporting families and individuals experiencing family trauma since 2004, in varied capacities in the community, primary and secondary education, private and public sector, and have been in private practice since 2011 in Barbados and the UK.
My personal experience of family trauma has made me enthusiastic about helping families overcome their pain. I feel privileged to be in the position of facilitating the therapeutic space helping families move from dysfunction to functioning.
I utilise an integrative approach to supporting families with their issues and provide a safe space to talk openly. In as little as six weeks families or individuals have the tools to help them improve their communication and create the relationships they deserve.
Practice description
The focus of the work
Family trauma can have a significant impact on our personality and relationships. Being a complex system, when relationships break down it takes willingness and effort to rebuild, but it is possible. When our emotions take control, it feels like we are from different worlds, and communication becomes a struggle. You have noticed the distance in relating and though you may or may not know why you feel afraid to approach each other. It may be because you fear rejection or conflict.
How can counselling Help
I help you to create a happier relationship by giving you the room to talk openly and respectfully. You learn how to respond to words and not react with emotion.
With determination to do the work, you can create a relationship that benefits you. I will help you step-by-step to improve your communication skills.
In therapy, you are given the space to talk openly to gain clarity about what you want for your life and how you would like to be as an individual or a family.
My first session
Initial contact
When you contact me to enquire about my service, I will give you my contract along with my assessment form to complete. This helps us to clarify our expectations, commitment, and the focus for therapy so that you benefit from coming to counselling.
What to expect in the first session?
At the initial meeting, we will discuss the boundaries for counselling i.e., attendance, confidentiality, your goals, the expectations of client and counsellor, and sign the contract in agreement. The first session will allow you to ask questions to see if we are a good fit for each other and share your story. It is your decision if you wish to proceed or book a follow-up appointment.
